Dark Light

Surfing high on that french pop wave, De La Jolie Musique has proven time and time again they have a great potential to top the charts, and not only in good ol’ France. A friend of mine, who, I assume, will not appreciate being named for numerous reasons (but yeah, thanks…), introduced me to Erwann Corré, the lead-singer of the promising ensemble. With a string of concert under my belt, from humble, shaky and unassured beginings last year at Espace B to confident but still timidly intimate sets at Le Motel (January 2014) via a short set with an ovation at Point Ephémere toward the end of last year. We can safely predict great things for De La Jolie Musique and their album “Mémoire Tropicale”.

Our favorite tracks “Losange” (very Wes Anderson, channeling Françoise Hardy – Le Temps De l’Amour – dollops of loveliness here in this live version) along with “Le Départ en Vacances” here for your listening sesh on Sodwee.com

13 tracks of emotional highs and emotional lows, crafted with great attention to detail for over two years with a brigade of great musicians, support singers in the city of love. Paris.

From a far it looks like a jungle, take a closer look, and you’ll notice a “Jardin à la Française” with carefully aligned perspectives, classy arrangements and harmonious melodies.

Influences permeate through the entire album like the Talking Heads, Manset, Gorillaz, Gainsbourg, Fela, Elli & Jacno, Tom Zé … with colors, rhythms, and cinematic sequences we can all relate to and indulge in. The perfect example would be the “Plein Soleil” video (above) that undeniably recalls “Roche” by Sebastien Tellier
