Dark Light

There’s no doubt about the long standing and positive impact French producing wizz kids like Douchka and a mothership like Nowadays Records (whom also take care of Leska, La Fine Equipe, Lemarquis and FAKEAR to name a few) are enabling on the international music scene. Culture is one powerful vector for a country like France across the world. And exports like those talents manage to sustain a complete, fleshed out and pretty top notch aura across their respective scenes and through their live performances.

Douchka joined the Nowadays Records two years ago from a smaller western city named Rennes. As productive and hyper-active he could be, the young producer released a first EP named “Joyful” back in June 2015, followed by a string of dates and then went back to the studio to prepare “Together”, the second EP released in March 2016 to critical local acclaim.

He has been a really common occurrence throughout festival seasons in France and a Red Bull Music Academy Tokyo alumni. His latest EP ‘Infantile’ will strike as very mature while keeping definite infantile and innocent character traits to the body of work, as the EP title suggests. He wanted to include some of his early inspirations within the electronic music scene (20Syl, Hudson Mohawke, Cashmere Cat), hip hop with contemporaries like Apollo Brown or J Dilla), as well as other genres with influences from Chilly Gonzales and Gorillaz.

Douchka says of the EP:

It’s an EP that directly comes from the live performances and the human encounters. I made it in a very spontaneous way, without any sulkiness, without a deadline. I kept what worked the best according to the interaction I had with people, whether they were the public during live performances or friends, my mom, during listening sessions. Infantile, it’s a story of sharing with people on the road, as the featurings with Lia and Hi Levelz (that I met on tour, out of the studio) show it.

The 7-track EP takes us deep into the producer’s universe, driven by a carelessness of rare purity. Through the realism and playfulness of Abadibadou‘s artwork, which was entirely made with a blue ball-pen, Douchka unveils his face on the cover for the first time in his career.

‘Infantile’ EP by Douchka is out on April 21st 2017
