Dark Light

It’s not everyday that an artist we’ve been following returns with such excitement. Ever since Ben Khan’s music endeavours came under our radars four years back when he released his debut track “Drive” (Part 1), we wanted to hear more of his music and his automotive-fetish. His crooning on the ‘1992’ EP was pretty special:  “I wanna steal the car / Just for the thrill / Drive it around town / Getting up to no good Do you wanna come with me?“. Today, our wish is at long last granted in high-fashion, Khan displaying a mean black 1983 Nissan Fairlady Z with retractable headlights and cementing his success as he fills the gap he left wide open whilst holing up around two years ago in order to record his long-awaited debut album, which we learn, is expected to be released this summer via Dirty Hit.

Feel it in my belly
Feel it in my lungs
Poison got me steady
Pocket full of gum
Peel it in my belly
Feel it in my lungs
Pocket full of jelly
Poison in my lungs

Today, he drops the first single off that forthcoming LP titled “2000 Angels”. Some brand new material from the London-based artist. And boy how good does it sound. It’s all you want from Ben Khan, and a whole lot more. Lush, intricate production, heavy instrumental lines with plenty to feed off and a seismic groove to satiate your thirst. Ben Khan knows we missed his music and definitely wants you to know. A bold statement in the form of a dystopian video he self-directed to great effect, does exactly that.

For this new album, Ben Khan worked with some of the industry’s heavyweights including PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails collaborator Flood. The album and “2000 Angels” was mixed by Spike Stent (who himself worked with Frank Ocean and Björk). Ben Khan as a multi-instrumentalist, proves it once more the breadth of his artistry by playing every single instrument you hear on every track. Check out the new material below and don’t forget to watch the video (above).
