Dark Light

Blackwave. are back at it once again and this time take you in a time capsule (or a flying Cadillac for that matter) that travels at blazing speeds across a number of influences and genres the Antwerp-based (Belgium) duo hold dear to their hearts. Filled with 90’s grooves executed with brio by their jazz musician friends from the Conservatory Of Antwerp. The pair already set the bar real high for themselves by releasing the amazing track “Swangin'” a while back. And today they reiterate the magic spell upon our eardrums with clear influences and inspirations from the likes of the late legend Prince, some Outkast vocal delivery and the jigginess humour of then rapper/artist Will Smith. It’s a track fit for purpose as summer heat waves start to descend on us…

Blackwave. explains:

Whasgood?!’ is our ode to all of the genres that inspire us aside from hip hop. Lately we’ve been listening to a lot of artists such as Prince, Parliament/Funkadelic and Sly Stone which just made us feel the need to combine all these sounds with the element hip-hop. I believe we managed to do the sound justice but still made it unique and contemporary, with our own flavour. The track is about finding ways to clear your mind when you’re in the midst of something big that consumes practically all of your time, which in our case is our debuting careers as artists. Even though, in all honesty, we would like to take a break from it all sometimes, we both know that there ain’t no time to slow down if we ever plan to reach our goals and fulfill our dreams. It’s about the dream of having reached everything you ever wanted and being able to just go for a ride in your Cadillac, get dragged away and clear your mind.It might be something that we’ll never reach, but for now, we’ll take all our chances to increase the odds!

Heat up the exhaust, and turn that pink Cadillac into a mean time-travelling whip like… Watch video above or listen to the Soundcloud below. And head on further down for more track by the rising Blackwave. duo from Belgium.
