Dark Light

Eeeeeeeeeekk. All my alarms are ringing right now. I’ve been playing Kenzie‘s relatively new EP ‘Dark July’ (Yeah, we’re a little late to the game. Well, fourteen days late that is) released via her own label BBYTTH (pronounced baby teeth) back on 31st of August 2018. And we haven’t got enough praise for the four tracks on offer here.

Not much is known from the young singer-songwriter, yet. All we do know is that she is most certainly supported by heavyweight champions of the music industry and people in and around the British music scene are starting to take notice. And maybe scrambling to know more like we did just now.

For fans of Kelela, Jorja Smith and Tirzah. This is a must listen. So much so, I went the extra mile and tagged her music #BESTNEWMUSIC!

This is her debut effort. And it gets two amazingly directed videos for “Dark July” (the lead single) and “Funeral” directed by Camille Summers-Valli and cinematographer Maximilian Pittner. Both from the snappy, sharp and effortlessly compelling downtempo R’n’B Kenzie delivers here. Listen to the whole EP below and definitely watch the “Dark July” & “Funeral” videos.
