Dark Light

We were kind of chuffed to see the stratospheric trajectory of MONSUNE‘s (also known as Scott Zhang in real life) debut single “Nothing In Return”. Being added to multiple BIG DEAL spotify playlists around the world. Being played in H&M’s and Urban Outfitters from around the globe and other trendsetting blogs that helped him get to that point. Including our proud Introducing post back in October of 2017 and various inclusions in a few mixtapes along the way.

With that in mind we are equally ecstatic to see the Chinese-Canadian college student return to excellent form with the next track from his upcoming EP, the thoughtfully titled “Outta My Mind”:

Scott mixes soulful vocals and modern pop arrangements straight from the very bedroom that saw the birth of the absolute hit that was “Nothing In Return” (see video below) just two years ago and this time flanked by mixer extraordinaire Jeff Ellis (best known for his work with Frank Ocean, Kali Uchis or even Earl Sweatshirt and more recently Snoh Aalegra) complete with Prince influences and hidden nuggets in the form of samples from the tracks ‘Lotus Blossom’ by War and Donny Hathaway’s ‘Love, Love, Love’. Another nod to his comtemporaries that will sure seal the deal when it comes to the EP in its entirety.

Monsune‘s debut EP “Tradition” will drop sometime this Autumn… Keep your ears peeled. Is all.
