They have only released an EP so far along with opening the <a href=\"https:\/\/sodwee.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/report-pitchfork-music-festival-paris-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris<\/a> over Halloween weekend&#8230; Sophie, our intrepid interviewer crashed on the backstage sofa with the rising outfit right after their show and got them talking, a lot.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some things come together immediately. Others\u2026 take a little time.\u00a0<strong>H\u00c6<span class=\"il\">LOS<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0known individually as <em>Arthur Delaney<\/em>, <em>Dom Goldsmith<\/em> and <em>Lotti Benardout<\/em> \u2013\u00a0fall into the latter bracket. But the way the music comes out sounding, you know it couldn\u2019t have happened any other way.\u00a0Each one of their vividly cinematic tracks seems to map the long journey from desperation to relief, stress to sanctuary \u2013 the basic dynamic of all urban life.\u00a0If London tends to be a meandering, alienating hometown,\u00a0there is a looming sense to H\u00c6<span class=\"il\">LOS<\/span>\u2019 music\u00a0of a band \u2013\u00a0of three people \u2013\u00a0having found each other. Was it a good show\u00a0?<\/h5>\n<p>Lotti\u00a0: It was a really good show\u00a0! We didn\u2019t know what to expect, being the first act on but actually there was a nice crowd there and it filled out as we were playing.<\/p>\n<h5>Do you have some kind of ritual before going on stage\u00a0?<\/h5>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: We really like to make ourselves feel big, we put our arms really wide, as wide as we can and we look into each other\u2019s eyes. There\u2019s something old-school about it. <em>(laughing)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: Sometimes Nigel our tour manager puts on Cold Water Music by Aim and we all dance around\u00a0like idiots!<\/p>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: We had a show at the Roundhouse, opening for TV On the Radio and we were dancing backstage and the coolest band in the world was watching us\u00a0! <em>(laughing)<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><div class=\"su-pullquote su-pullquote-align-right\">&#8220;There are so many different cultures in London, it\u2019s a melting-pot of humanity so if we decided to go anywhere else it would have to be the same or better.&#8221; &#8211; Dom (Haelos) on London&#8230;<\/div><\/h3>\n<h5>Haelos, your stage name, implies a dichotomy that can also be found in your music and in your lyrics. There\u2019s always this subtle shift from darkness to euphoria and light or from fear to love.<\/h5>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: Our whole band is about cycles, moving through from one thing to another like moving from the day coming and going. Our music is the same thing. Maybe even in one song, you have like so much euphoria but kinda of find yourself also reflecting on your lowest times.<\/p>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: It\u2019s because opposites actually attract so you need them for a balance, it\u2019s a language.<\/p>\n<h5>There\u2019s always a dark counterpart.<\/h5>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: yes, like sometimes you\u2019re out clubbing and you\u2019re really high and you\u2019re thinking about your worst things <em>(laughing)<\/em> or sometimes you\u2019re so low and you feel almost high because of it. That tension, there\u2019s beauty in that.<\/p>\n<h5>You music is inspired by the dynamic of urban life. You\u2019re from London, so what is special about it and could you imagine yourself living in another city\u00a0?<\/h5>\n<p>Lotti\u00a0: We talked about maybe going abroad to write our next record and we even talked about LA but in London you have differences, differences in the seasons, in the darkness. We wrote the majority of our record in the winter in London when it\u2019s dark and cold and quite, you know, beautiful but also miserable and that was a huge part of our record. So to go and write our record somewhere sunny would be a very different thing and maybe it would bring to light a whole different side to us but London\u2019s home for us\u00a0! As much as you dread winter coming but there\u2019s something else.<\/p>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: There are so many different cultures in London, it\u2019s a melting-pot of humanity so if we decided to go anywhere else it would have to be the same or better.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: It\u2019s a funny time in London, there\u2019s a weird mood. Lots of our friends are leaving London because their artist scene is getting killed off by really high rents, it\u2019s so expensive\u00a0! The nightlife is dying, there\u2019s a Conservative government\u2026The mood is quite low, people are leaving to go to Berlin or LA\u00a0where it\u2019s cheaper but that made quite an interesting time as artists. We are perfectly happy to look at the dark side as well as the light side. Photo by Sophie Jarry for Sodwee.com <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <!-- close group --> <\/div> <!-- close row --> <\/div>\n<h5>You were making music separately before forming Haelos, how did you meet each other\u00a0?<\/h5>\n<p>Lotti\u00a0: Dom and I met through a mutual friend, we were both doing different projects and Dom wanted a female vocalist and then we met and decided to try do some writings together.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: Me and Dom have known each other for quite a number of years cause our last bands used to play gigs together. We moved on to the same road as Dom without knowing he lived there and bumped into each other at a party and said we should write together.<\/p>\n<p>Lotti\u00a0: The two projects were sort of going along side and we thought maybe we should try and put them all together. We did a session together and wrote Dust and it felt right.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: If you\u2019re a writer and you meet a master of productions like Dom, ideas form around.<\/p>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: Basically all of us brought things that inspired each other and when we came together it felt like we were home. It was more about the mood in general.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u00a0: The themes in the videos are very much the themes of our songs, they\u2019re very sensitive. The 90\u2019s track was sort of optimistic, hopeful and careful and our song is dark and introspective. We didn\u2019t mean to do it like that but it came naturally.<\/p>\n<p>Dom\u00a0: In our minds we had this idea of the lyrics (the sun is rising) of a mushroom cloud on the horizon <em>(laughing),<\/em> fairly morbid\u00a0!
