When everybody thought Nowadays Records<\/a><\/em> struck gold with Douchka<\/em> and thought they\u2019d stop there<\/a>. Rest assured, the Parisian record label has plenty more tricks up its sleeve. And by tricks, I mean a gold pile of beauties lying in the back store waiting to be released. Like this absolute gem that roams by the name of \u2018D\u00e9rive\u2019, a mini-album by creative talent Jumo<\/strong>. It\u2019ll sound as if I have stakes in the decidedly prolific venture, but alas and sorry for me, I have none. Maybe I should invest fast.<\/p>\n

Living between the Atlantic coast and the busy bustle\/hustle that is the French Capital, Jumo<\/strong> delivers highly conceptual, melody-driven and approachable\u00a0pieces of music that have a real sense of timelessness. At times, even chronologically hung\u00a0in for account\u00a0by sparse vocal statements and absolutely wonderful featurings by\u00a0Holy Oysters<\/em> on \u201cBloom\u201d or VedeTT<\/em> on \u201cJe Le Savais\u201d.<\/p>\n

You will \u2013 I have no doubts \u2013 be transported elsewhere upon listening to the 7-track EP called \u201cD\u00e9rive\u201d. Coming off the hot heels of the previous installment that was EP \u201c\u00c9tape\u201d back in February. Jumo prepares his tactful return on May 12th. Make sure you save the date. Vedett<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>Jumo<\/strong> is a multi-disciplinary artist involved in a wide array of projects, including in\u00a0graphic design with illustrator Nina Guy<\/a><\/em> whom he\u2019s been collaborating on the art direction and design of the visuals. It\u2019s with the music, in retrospect, that we\u2019ll remember his stance: a project driven by music, packed with subtle emotions of a carefully laid out narrative\u00a0with dramatic events along the way.<\/p>\n

    Jumo<\/strong> says of the EP \u2018D\u00e9rive\u201d:<\/p>\n

    I was inspired by the modern approach of Steve Reich or Philip Glass with their music. I worked on a number of tracks (D\u00e9rive, Huit Jours, Bleu)\u00a0using the piano as the base. The idea of starting with the piano in its simplest form, to build upon the melody with successive layers led to create movements and shifts I didn\u2019t plan at first.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    The end result is a truly coherent and licked collection of tracks that will leave a lasting impression. \u201cD\u00e9rive\u201d invites you to interpret and let your imagination dictate the direction. Leaving the audience the absolute freedom in the visual abstraction.<\/p>\n
