If it wasn’t for Wesley’s constant bragging and online harassment about Major Lazer, Diplo and company on a daily basis. I wouldn’t have come across this little diamond of a track called “Get Free“. It was back in April when shitty weather was stuck above our heads, so I didn’t give it much thought. And because Wesley’s taste in music usually revolves around Alanis Morrissette and another has-been/long-gone artists, I left it at that for much of the summer. Until SoMe decided to direct the video for the track. And because the shuffle mode in my iTunes got the better of me today. I’m now writing about a track I had totally forgotten and obviously fallen in love with today. Download the track below :
It’s that kind of summery tune, that lingers in the deepest end of your brain cavity with a simple yet uber-effective melody. Coupled beautifully with catchy/ambient vocals. And the vocals here mean everything : Amber Coffman (From Dirty Projectors) nails it. Plain simple.
Major Lazer is a musical project by DJ/Producer Diplo. Formerly a collaboration along with DJ/Producer Switch, they parted ways in late 2011. With recent collaboration including Brazils very own baile funk mad-squad Bonde do Rolê, and noticeable work with Santogold, Amanda Blank and other high profile vocalists from the New-York & Brazilian indie scene… Check out the kick arse video below and forgive Wesley’s musical taste :
