Half Czech, half Turkish; Melis is a singer/songwriter with sensibility that is hard to get by in the music realm these days. She’s a former songwriter for duo IYES and she recently released a self-produced demo track called “Love Song Idea” she managed to rescue from a broken hard drive. Topping multiple charts including the coveted Hype Machine’s, she proved once more then she had the skillset needed to become a great solo singer-songwriter.
Melis cements her undertaking with her new debut single (and not a demo) from her ‘Parallels’ EP with a song named “Flower” dedicated to her father. Touching on subjects such as relationship let-down and break-up in the most endearing and understanding way putting once again her sumptuous vocals front and center.
Melis explains:
Flower is the track from the EP that really holds a special place for me. I wrote it during 2016 which seemed to be a bit of a rough patch for me. The sentiment of the song is that going through sadness and being in a dark place isn’t forever. There is hope and better things, if only one doesn’t give up. This song is the encouragement for that. I recorded the idea, like Love Song Idea, on my iPhone. I began to record parts of it in my apartment and in a small Berlin studio space with Josh Christopher.
