Dark Light

Started by brothers Joe and Sam Woollard back in 2019, later joined by remaining sibling Nat, Goodnight Goodbye is a band that likes to recall a time when pop was driven by honest feelings and positive vibes. Sprinkled with sugar nostalgic themes as well as topics ranging from their most vulnerable moments to the current social climate we’re in. Their music, including latest single “Smoothie” off of their upcoming EP of the same title, will uplift your mood and your body temperature quite a ways.

The band relocated to Italy from Birmingham (but are now based out of London), following their parents in 2005. The siblings have also career paths of their own, as well as being writers, producers and vocalists here in the project. Their influences range from 70s legends Fleetwood Mac via Abba to fellow future nostalgists such as Harry Styles or The 1975. Goodnight Goodbye‘s music is a well-proportioned balancing act of classic versus contemporary influences. Not to mention the official video being inspired by WHAM! and their famous “Club Tropicana” summer anthem, which on its own is a sight to behold, find out for yourselves, and maybe you know, next time you’re near a pool, drench yourself in watermelon juice “for the gram” :

A sip of your smoothie
Juicy, fruity to me
Like I can’t compare
(Smoothie)
Fruit it up up with mango
Pinch of sugar will go down
Fill my cup up with rum now
(Smoothie?)

The first single from Goodnight Goodbye‘s upcoming EP, ‘Smoothie’ was conceived – says the band –

“right before quarantine, as we were getting excited by our summer. Of course, a few weeks later all our plans went out the window. But as our summer holidays were basically canceled, ‘Smoothie’ turned into a tune that encouraged us to stay positive during the lockdown. We base a lot of our aesthetic off Wham!, which is an absolute look.”
