Dark Light

This is dope, so much so, that I’ve been listening to it non-stop for the last 24hrs. Aloe Blacc, “I need A Dollar” has scoed the lead theme song on HBO’s new series : How to make it in America’.

“My purpose for music is positive social change,” says Orange County, California native Aloe Blacc. “Even if the music itself does not explicitly express anything that may signify positive social change, the product of the music will.” He is speaking in general terms regarding his career, but more specifically about the circumstances surrounding his upcoming album, Good Things, co-written by the versatile vocalist and songwriter in conjunction with the in-house production team at Truth & Soul Records.

Aloe Blacc is an American soul singer, rapper, and musician. His first album, entitled Shine Through, was released by Stones Throw Records in 2006. He began his career in 1995 as an MC in an indie rap group called Emanon. By the end of the 1990s, Blacc was a “stow away” on a Lootpack tour in Europe.
His music contains elements of jazz, R&B, soul, and hip hop.
He recorded a cover version of the John Legend song “Ordinary People” entitled “Gente Ordinaria”.
His song “I Need a Dollar” is the intro song for the HBO show How to Make it in America. He is also working on a new album titled “Good Things” set to be released on September 14th, 2010.

Wild Manes – Cicadas

What's not to like in this track? Wild Manes deliver luscious harmonies, great instrumentation and pin-point-ship-sharp lyrics to boot. I'm on board. Check this six-piece outfit straight out of Brooklyn New-York fronted by the whimsical vocals by Lindsey Nadolski, Heather Santana and Jocelyn Conn.
