Born Charlotte O’Connor to an Irish father and a half-Indian, half-Malawian mother, she’s weathered the music industry’s highs and lows—from being scooped up by a major label at 18 to getting the boot when she refused to play puppet. After a whirlwind few years in London, she hit reset in her hometown, and the result? Her rawest, realest music to date.
“‘God, We Tried’ is deeply personal,” she shares. “I started writing it after my dad passed away. In my grief, I fell into a relationship that, in hindsight, wasn’t my best decision. I think I was just searching for a male presence to fill a void. The song captures the heartbreak of trying to force something that was never quite right.”
The accompanying video is a love letter to her roots. “Filming in Blackburn felt like coming full circle,” Charlotte explains. “London was a total car crash, but returning home gave me clarity—and this video is a tribute to the place that put me back together.”
