Dark Light

The Edinburgh-born producer, DJ, and all-around beat wizard Barry Can’t Swim is back with his most personal—and danceable—album yet. Loner, dropping July 11 via Ninja Tune, promises to be a journey through sound, self-reflection, and sweaty, euphoric dance floors. Barry Can’t Swim is Making Waves, yet again.

And to wet our appetites, Barry has unleashed Different—a club-ready, serotonin-boosting anthem that has already become a staple in his enigmatic live sets. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to witness him in action, you know that when Barry plays, the room moves.

But Loner isn’t just about making people dance—it’s about something deeper. The album sees Barry exploring the surreal world he’s found himself in, from skyrocketing success to the solitude that can come with it. It’s introspective, raw, and, at its core, a deeply personal snapshot of an artist caught between two worlds: the relentless energy of global tours and the quieter, reflective moments in between.

“If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year,” Barry shares.

One foot on the dance floor, the other in deep thought—Loner is shaping up to be a project that balances both sides of Barry Can’t Swim. Whether you’re here for the introspection or just for the bangers, one thing’s for sure: this album is going to hit different.

Mark your calendars. July 11. Get ready to dive in.
