Dark Light

Haerts take the scenic route (and a few emotional detours) on upcoming Laguna Road

Ah, Laguna Road. It sounds like the kind of sun-drenched cul-de-sac where yoga mats outnumber people and lemon trees drip with existential dread. And in the capable, heart-heavy hands of indie-pop duo Haerts (that’s Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert, thank you very much), it becomes something far more than just a postal address—it’s the backdrop for their fourth album and, frankly, one very poignant emotional renovation project.

Announced today with all the subtle drama of a tear rolling down a cheek in slow motion, Laguna Road is set to land October 3rd, bringing with it themes of family, memory, and that sacred chaos we call “growing up together without completely combusting.”

To kick things off, the duo gift us “Women on the Line”, a piano ballad so tender it might just melt your ribcage. Featuring the hauntingly ethereal Jenn Wasner (of Flock of Dimes fame), the track is one of those quietly devastating numbers that should come with a box of tissues and a warning label: May cause reflective sobbing between coffee sips. Nini croons, “So don’t you tell me to be happy. I’m just a woman on the line,” and honestly? Consider us all on the line with you !

The album was birthed, between naps, diapers, and philosophical breakdowns at their home on the actual Laguna Road, where the soundtrack to their domestic mayhem gradually took shape. Think less rockstar glamour, more emotional spelunking in pajamas. According to Nini, this was a time of inner chaos wrapped in outer perfection: lemons, hummingbirds, a piano… and crippling anxiety. (in short classic California.)

If you’re expecting another glistening synth-pop parade like their earlier work, hold your horses. Laguna Road promises a slower, rawer, more vulnerable sound. The kind of album that simmers rather than shouts. Benny puts it best: “We leaned into that with a light hand on production.” The Result: No glitter, just guts.

And this isn’t just an album. It’s a confessional booth set to music. A quietly orchestrated unraveling of identity, womanhood, and the delicate art of not totally losing it while raising a family and questioning every decision that got you here.

With more singles due in the coming months, Laguna Road looks set to be the emotional road trip soundtrack we didn’t know we needed but we deeply deserve. Just remember to buckle up. And maybe bring tissues.

Lyrics_ Woman On The Line

People say
There's nothing wrong with me, but you would tell me anyway
There’s a piece inside me missing and I never say
What’s too hard to say

And the little lies, like the the cigarette you break in half before you light it
When you smile and say you want to build a life with me, but there’s no life in me

So don’t you tell me to be happy
I’m just a woman on the line
And don’t you tell me not to lose it
How could this be the best of times

And it’s clear to me
I could never be the golden child I tried to be
There’s an aching in my heart no one could take away
And I won’t make you stay

So don’t you tell me to be happy
I’m just a woman on the line
And don’t you tell me not to lose it
How could this be the best of times

So don’t you tell me to be happy
I’m just a woman on the line
And don’t you tell me not to lose it
How could this be the best of times

So don’t you tell me to be happy
I’m just a woman on the line
And don’t you tell me not to lose it
How could this be the best of times
