Dark Light

An ache of a melody which wouldn’t be out of place in a Western (or at least some Western-Horror mashup) starts this monochrome mystery of a track, by Hoar. The Belgian four piece do not walk the streets, but rather wander the canals in the Venice of the North, seemingly wishing to go overboard, lover in tow. Presumably 3mins 37.5secs in is when the protagonists do indeed flip the gondola, and flap about in the flooded strade. There is ‘no one around to save…’ them, which is a bit of a shame because I’d like to hear more from this band in the future. Get in your gondola and give this gem a listen.

The Sophs – Death in the Family

The Sophs dive headfirst into guilt, grief, and fuzzed-out confessionals on their haunting new single “Death in the Family”. A blistering slice of alt-rock catharsis that sounds like Weezer having a panic attack in a church basement.

JWord x Elhae – Want More

Smooth-talking abounds from both JWord and Elhae on this one, at once laid back and energetic. They seem to bounce across the track, with the chorus going sky-high with its Chris Brown-like layering and melodies that will leave you, well, wanting more.
