Leisure have returned, cool as ever, moving at a speed that can only be described as perfectly unbothered. After the lush daydream that was Leisurevision in 2023, they’re sliding back into our lives with two new tracks — “Welcome to the Mood” and “Sundown” — offering the first sun-dappled taste of their upcoming fifth album.
“Welcome to the Mood” is exactly that: a musical lounge chair where the only rule is “don’t try too hard.” It drifts along with an easy rhythm that’s less “hustle culture” and more “let’s just see what the universe has planned.” Then there’s “Sundown,” where things get a little more flirty — saxophones enter the chat, harmonies wrap you up like a soft blanket, and suddenly you’re cruising through a desert at golden hour, feeling suspiciously like the star of an indie road movie.
Visually, Leisure are also mixing up the vibe. They’ve traded the cool greens of Leisurevision for a sun-soaked palette of oranges, reds, and dusty golds — imagine an Instagram filter called “Golden Hour Forever.” The “Welcome to the Mood” clip was filmed at Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert palace, Taliesin West, where the band chills among leafy plants and furniture so mid-century it practically demands a martini. “Sundown” then stretches the party outside, basking in all the late-afternoon glow the desert can handle.
After the introspective grooves of Sunsetter (2021) and Leisurevision (2023), it’s clear Leisure’s new era isn’t about rushing or reinventing the wheel — it’s about vibing, properly and unapologetically.
“We hope these tracks lift your spirits and set the mood wherever you are,” the band says. Translation: Light a candle, make a drink, and press play. Big tour news is coming too — but until then, they suggest you spin the new tunes to your heart’s content. (Who are we to argue?)
Leisure’s “Welcome to the Mood” and “Sundown” are out now. Your chillest self will thank you.
