Dark Light

Wellness is a state of mind. Dancefloor enlightenment is a state of Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul.

Belgium’s favourite electronic troublemakers are back, and apparently, they’ve been spending some quality time in the self-help aisle. With From Healer to Dealer, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul return to the scene of the crime with another gloriously absurd slice of electronic pop, lifted from their forthcoming album Mainland Madinina, due February 5, 2027, via DEEWEE and Because Music. Soulwax are back behind the knobs, naturally. Some things in life are simply non-negotiable.

Clocking in at over eight minutes, this gloriously twitchy beast finds the duo poking fun at wellness culture, spiritual enlightenment and the sort of people who’ve apparently unlocked the secrets of the universe after one questionable weekend retreat. Enter Grace and Ruben, two walking, talking repositories of self-important nonsense, whose exchanges unfold like a couples therapy session conducted by people who’ve mistaken Instagram quotes for emotional intelligence.

Musically, it’s another deliciously warped affair. Hypnotic electronics, funky basslines and a distinctly dance-punk pulse keep things moving, while the duo’s trademark deadpan delivery turns the whole exercise into an absurdist dancefloor sermon. Imagine Miami Sound Machine getting tangled up with Talking Heads at a particularly dysfunctional wellness retreat. Spiritual awakening optional, questionable dance moves absolutely encouraged.

But beneath the satire, Adigéry and Pupul remain masters of their own wonderfully strange universe. Their ability to turn contemporary absurdities into irresistible pop without ever sounding remotely preachy is precisely what makes them such a joy. Eight minutes fly by, and suddenly you’re wondering whether your own therapist has been secretly selling you snake oil.

If Topical Dancer was the duo’s deliciously confrontational introduction, From Healer to Dealer suggests they’re still finding fresh ways to make the world’s collective nonsense sound like an absolute party.

The healing can wait. The dealer has the aux.
