You probably don’t remember Makeness, but the Scottish producer had previously released “14drops” and we were left picking the pieces up of our blown-mind from the floor. Today Kyle Molleson, his real name, storms our eardrums with another mammoth track named “Day Old Death”.

Tipped as the next breakthrough electronic-pop artist, Makeness drives lushly produced jams for fans of the likes of Mount Kimbie and Jon Hopkins topped with some spaced out vocals that turn his tracks towards a poppier edge and more approachable feel. Starting tonight, he will open for another of our favourites acts: JUNGLE during the North American leg of their tour.

Makeness says of the track:

Day Old Death’ took me by surprise. It was a Sunday and I was preparing to leave the studio in Scotland after a few days off work. The whole time there had been overshadowed by the passing of a colleague a week prior. I sat down at the Korg PS-3100 synth needing a break from very slowly packing flight cases and tripping over cables. It has this micro tuning function where you can slightly detune each note and everything starts to sound a little more interesting and meaningful. Something about the pensive, meandering drone the synth was conjuring connected me with the feeling of hearing the news from the week before. I think pouring that emotion into music was the best way I could express how I felt.

If you enjoyed “14drops”, you’ll absolutely fall for “Day Old Death” which is released via Secretly Canadian. Follow his musing on his socials all listed below and keep a close eye on his future output.
