Danny Brown is back with Stardust and it’s already looking like a hyper-pop fever dream
Strap in, buckle up, and maybe pre-order some earplugs while you’re at it. The Detroit rap alien/veteran/mad scientist has been cooking something noisy, glitchy, and downright unhinged. And if you thought his JPEGMAFIA tag team (Scaring The Hoes, 2023) or the snarling introspection of Quaranta were wild rides, you haven’t even seen him put on his glitter-cape yet.
Since then, Brown has been bouncing around the hyperpop universe like a cracked-out pinball — collabing with Frost Children, Alice Longyu Gao, 8485, and even popping up with A.G. Cook at Coachella like some chaotic guest Pokémon encounter. All roads, however, lead to his new LP, Stardust (out November). First taste? The lead single “Starburst” — a rave-thumper that sounds like a candy sugar rush detonating inside a blender, and we mean that in the best possible way.
Produced by Portuguese beat wizard Holly (who also cooked up the Quaranta title track), “Starburst” has Brown on his classic nasal-yammer flow, slicing syllables like Ginsu knives while Frost Children’s Angel Prost sneaks in at the tail end with co-writer credits. It’s loud, it’s jagged, it’s weirdly anthemic — basically the musical equivalent of getting glitter in your eye at 4am and deciding you’re into it.
The guest list for Stardust looks like someone threw all of SoundCloud’s underground boss-level characters into a group chat: Jane Remover, Quadeca, Femtanyl, underscores, JOHNNASCU, 8485, IssBrokie, Nnamdi, Ta Ukraika, and Zheani. Not an ounce of chill in sight.
And if that wasn’t enough chaos, Brown’s also dropped a DEADHORSES-directed video for “Starburst” where he debuts his new glam-superhero look: shirtless, shredded, rocking mutant boots and rocking a peroxide dye-job that screams “Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man meets rave gremlin.” Honestly, it’s iconic.
Stardust drops on November 7thvia Warp Records, followed by a month-long headline tour with underscores and Femtanyl as openers. Basically: the circus is coming to town, and Danny’s running the big top.

Lyrics_ Starburst
better shape up and get them squares out ya circle
if all these niggas bosses then tell me who the workers
cause these niggas lurking
pull up like leaving hurter
they talk about them murders
till they ride behind them hearstes
present is the past in a second
so count your blessings
the lesson in the essence
that snatch u out adolescence
they woke me up inside
like listen to evanesence
was microphone checking
at seven
no half stepping
pull the weapon
on a reverend
and tell him run the collection
if he hesitate a second
im sending his ass to heaven
they woke up the monster
so i divide and conquer
I ponder
going bonkers
then knocking out ya chompers
I wonder
why they somber
when they stand in front of your honor
but when they in them streets
they going nuts like conker
big big guy
dropping them small fries
like a lunch rush came in
and everybody called in
these niggas want the smoke
like twenty twin twin
use to get hit with bricks
like Deebo at the end
If getting money a sin
I’m going straight to hell
I sold all my shares
that’s why y’all stocks fell
well well well
im leaving em all pale
snatch a rapper soul
make him a shell of hisself
I’m lifting all them curses
with what I do with them verses
God of the underground
change channels on them commercials
surface level im grounded
taking em deep to drown you
type great white
surrounded by flounder
out here in them streets
keep them niggas
from round you
they purpose
Is a circus
And these niggas
A clown you
they minstrel
with the pencil
a burden to instrumentals
I put it to your temple
and turn a nigga to lentil
in Bruno magli shoes
I’m leaving tracks orenthal
essential with utensils
im chopping with the gensu
