Kraków Loves Adana‘s new single “Rapture” comes out of nowhere it seems. Brooding vocals, clever lyrics and the omnipresent synths and guitars make for the best combination on our two favorite tracks from the Hamburg-based duo and partners in crime Deniz Cicek and Robert Heitmann. Today along with the release of their new single via Better Call Rob unveil their Ebba Ågren (of rising duo Wy we talked about extensively here) directed video for “Rapture”. Another simplistic take, rendered with the greatest taste.
Tell me what’s worse
To die young or to die first
I guess it doesn’t make a difference
The track touches upon teen subjects in a peculiar nostalgic way. Bringing up souvenirs from Deniz Cicek own teenage years. Back at a time she didn’t have internet access (she only got a connection when she turned 17) and the only distraction laying around that spiked her curiosity was a tape cassette and a tape recorder. To which she inevitably was drawn towards and started recording her first songs on the medium.
Today though, she brings an unmistakable vocal maturity and craft to the project she started with Robert Heitmann. And who better to bring it to our attention than the same team behind Wy’s success around the world: Better Call Rob. Talking of Wy, Ebba Ågren directed the video you see above. Also bringing a signature adolescent-esque look to the track and illustrating with brio the actual subject the song brings to the table: The cassette, with the walkman making music a private experience, with the mixtape reflecting romance, with its shabby sound embodying a somehow misplaced nostalgia.
[accordion] [item title=”Rapture – Lyrics”]Tell me what’s next
Tell me what’s best
Put a cassette into the tape deck
Gotta play it for me
Hear the voices weep
Let the sad poets sing me to sleep
This is the rapture of my heart
Of my rebel heart
Tell me what’s worse
To die young or to die first
I guess it doesn’t make a difference
Gotta stick to the blue
Like a stone in my shoe
I will carry it along
Will carry it along
This is the rapture of my heart
Of my rebel heart
