Dark Light

You might remember Lao Ra from her romping debut ‘Jesus Made Me Bad’ (listen below). It was a hypnotic combination of Island drums and dynamic vocals – delivered to us through the lens of Lao Ra‘s Colombian roots. In the follow up single ‘Daddy Issues’ we encounter the same winning formula. This one is produced by BiLLLy and Peter Jarrett. The track is more laid-back, framing Lao Ra’s melody with sampled vocal cuts and sparse pads.

There’s more space for her voice to breathe, more space for rhythmic interplay and enough headroom for the infectious hook to take centre stage. ‘Daddy Issues’ solidifies Lao Ra‘s place in our playlists – she’s far more than a great debut single. It’s the same pleasingly contagious tropical sound with another killer chorus. You won’t be able to get this one out of your head or your iTunes’ recently played list. Jokes. Who uses iTunes anymore?

Keep them coming Lao Ra!

Gum Parker – Two Subarus

Sonically, Gum Parker leans into the scrappy, jangly corners of indie rock—think ‘90s college radio meets early-2000s DIY basement shows. It’s loose but intentional, catchy but unpolished, with just enough punk bite to keep things unpredictable. Gritty, hooky, and made to be played loud. Listen to Two Subarus via Sodwee.com
