Dark Light

Cardiff, in Wales, has an all-female five-piece set to take the world by storm. Comprised of Cara, Estelle, Monique, Ruth and Vanity. The band is channeling the best of TLC‘s RnB and infectious rhythms, some high flying Massive Attack production and the sound of some golden-era All Saints you get the new kids on the block : Baby Queens.

With a debut album on the way, the girls have put out some serious sounds and the latest being “Tired Of Love”. We enjoyed it so much that we don’t how on earth we got sidetracked and didn’t post the blissful track before. Such a throwback musical moment though, you could easily mistake it for a 90s hit. Yup, it’s that good. A blend of numerous influences from rock’n’roll bands, soul and Motown, trippy 60s and 70s bands to roots hip hop artists.

It’s not your average girl-group/band. They are a tightly-knit unconventional bunch with a load full of talent to spare and a diverse background in music that complements each other’s, writing, playing and singing all the tracks themselves. Baby Queens have also enrolled producer Cian Ciara (former Super Furry Animal) to work on their debut album that’s been a couple years in the making and releasing it on Strangetown Records.

Our love of street poetry, spoken word and rap has influenced many of the songs, but also rock n roll bands, soul/Motown, trippy 60s and 70s bands, the roots reggae and roots hip hop artists, basically anything that is heartfelt and soulful and stands for something positive.

Says Cara.

Self-titled album by Baby Queens is to be released October 28 on Strangetown Records.
