Dark Light

Golden hour just got a soundtrack: LEISURE’s ‘One In a Million’ warms up the room for upcoming album ‘Welcome To The Mood’ release.

Leisure have never been the band to rush a vibe. They’re the kind of guys who show up at your barbecue three hours late, but with a bottle of something strong and a playlist that makes everyone forgive them instantly. With their fifth studio album, Welcome To The Mood (out September 12 via Nettwerk), the New Zealand collective once again prove they’re masters of unhurried euphoria.

This record isn’t just background music for sunsets: it is the sunset. Warm, sprawling, and tinged with just enough melancholy to keep you from floating off entirely.

Instead of hiding behind endless loops and plug-in perfection, Leisure hit the studio with the full band and let things breathe. Real drums, real brass, strings that sound like they’ve been lifted from a dusty ‘70s soul session, pianos played with just the right touch of hangover haze. The production has air in it, imperfections that feel human, and a groove that oozes authenticity.

Every track here feels tied together by that elusive thing so many bands chase: cohesion without boredom. Leisure manage to keep it interesting without ever breaking the spell.

A quirky bonus: the band leaned into Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert sanctuary, as inspiration for the visual mood. Think mid-century modernism under a peach-colored Arizona sky. The end result are Music videos that look like art-school daydreams scored by brass-soaked grooves. It’s architecture for your earholes.

Welcome To The Mood isn’t an album that demands your attention with flashing lights. It sneaks up on you, slides into your bloodstream, and suddenly you realize you’ve been swaying for 45 minutes without moving from your couch. It’s a body of work that proves slowing down doesn’t mean standing still.

If you were looking for a soundtrack to golden hour, your next rooftop drink, or just that private moment when you lean back and think “damn, life’s not so bad,” Leisure just handed it to you on vinyl-shaped platter.

“Welcome To The Mood,” out September 12 via Nettwerk.

The heat just went up a notch. I just literally completed my first spin of Fousheé's new single "Deep End" that I couldn't help but share the real dope she has to offer in a full-blown blog post :
