Haerts take us home with Laguna Road, a family album that actually slaps.
Haerts have officially gone full domestic, and somehow made it sound divine. Today, the indie-pop duo drop their fourth studio album Laguna Road, written and recorded not in some high-end Berlin bunker or New York shoebox studio, but at home, mid-chaos, in the in-between spaces where love, toddlers, and half-finished cups of coffee collide.
The record kicks off with “Letters on the Floor,” a piercing opener that feels like finding a heartfelt note under your pillow, only with better reverb. It sets the tone for a body of work that isn’t afraid to get messy—because life, family, and creative partnerships are rarely neat little IKEA builds.
Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert, the partners-in-love-and-synths at the heart of Haerts, lean into that chaos with honesty and charm. Nini describes Laguna Road as a “portrait of family, memory, and the sacred mess of growing a life together.” And she’s not exaggerating, it’s as confessional as your late-night group chat, but far more melodic.
Musically, it’s a step sideways from their shimmering indie-pop blueprint into something warmer, looser, and undeniably lived-in. You can hear the walls of their house in the songs, the spaces between verses like open windows letting the world (and maybe a neighbor’s lawnmower) leak in. It’s intimate but never claustrophobic. Like being invited to dinner at their place, except the food is replaced by harmonies, and you leave both full and slightly weepy.
By the time the duo packed up their Laguna Road home in early 2025 and returned to New York, they’d left behind more than an address. They bottled the sound of becoming, of deciding what to hold onto and what to let go. The result is their most personal record yet, an album that proves indie pop can be both sprawling and deeply human, even with crayon stains on the mixing desk.
Laguna Road isn’t just an album. It’s a scrapbook, a sonic family portrait, and a future comfort blanket for anyone fumbling through love, memory, and the beautiful mess of togetherness.
