Donna Missal just dropped a real career boosting track with “The Keeper”. A true gem blogs will go absolutely ape shit for. From New Jersey, Donna Missal had turned us already in the past with the track “Sick” we had covered in a previous “Cloud Dropping” installment :

A slow burning number, that you really should listen to as she slowly takes reign over the charts.

Fitting between the elusive pop of Lana Del Rey and the soul power-house that was Amy Winehouse, Donna Missal has all the baggage for greatness in the bland soundscape of today’s music business. It’s gritty, deep and dark, sometimes a little shaky but all serves the overall goal here: great music, powerful vocals and hit after hit output !

“The Keeper” was written in Diamond Mine Studio in Queens, New York, with frequent collaborators that have worked with artists like Lee Fields and Sharon Jones. and Donna Missal says of the process :

We get together and listen to hip hop and old soul records and make songs that reflect our influences while sort of riding our own wave…

The track "Falling Forwards" channels an interesting array of influences. Ranging from psychedelic rock to the modern indie pop sensibilities of our days. Think of Blur, Tame Impala and Animal Collective together on a tour bus and getting creative.
