Dark Light

We were super excited to hear the new Har Mar Superstar about to drop. Personal Boy EP comes out on August 22nd, and has something very coherent going for it. Sean Tillmann aka Har Mar Superstar is an American songwriter that is best known for his premier live act and sweat induced shows. He creates great music and started his soul, R&B and pop project back in 1999. He’s based out of Minneapolis, MN.

He unleashed the epic 7 minutes long title track “Personal Boy” off of his upcoming EP. Its epicness will ring true in many ways for weeks to come. Foghorns, drums, and vocals of Seal-sized proportions. It is a story of unbreakable love that should end your summer relationship in the greatest way ever.

The four track EP also features tracks like “Timeback” that reminded us of past work by Future Islands with a funk driven instrumental that Mary J. Blige could learn a few tricks from . The third, and in our opinion the stand out track, is a cover of the Afghan Whigs‘ “Demon in Profile,”. Har Mar Superstar suggested the cover in anticipation of the extensive North American tour he will be embarking on with them throughout all of September and October 2017.  You’ll find it irresistibly hard not to dance when the beat thumps those moves out of your body.

Sean Tillmann was invited to work on some dance tracks by producers BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso) and Lazerbeak (Doomtree, Lizzo) earlier this year. They had all been friends for quite some time and were looking for an excuse to create together.  When the three songwriters convened at April Base in April 2017, the two-day session was so prolific that they left with seven new songs including the three that make up the Personal Boy EP.  The session was a quick-fire round robin that saw everyone’s talents locking in with unforeseen tightness. A balance formed between the strengths of Tillmann’s chord progressions, vocal melodies, and lyrics; Lazerbeak’s drum programming, ever-growing soundbank, and pop intelligence; and Burton’s slamming production, in-depth sound knowledge, and incredible ear.
