Dark Light

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m currently on a bit of a 70’s punk-inspired kick.

Enter Brooklyn garage golden boys The Britanys: part-Is This It era Strokes, part-Arctic Monkeys, the scrappy four-piece has been a live staple in the New York region for quite some time but are finally getting more widespread notice thanks to their blazing guitars, knack for raucous melodies, show-stopping live shows, and no-bullshit attitude.

And it doesn’t hurt that their most recent release, “Basketholder”, was produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes’ Is This It, Regina Spektor’s Soviet Kitch), and that they recently got to open for one of their favorite acts, Hinds, at their recent sold-out show at the iconic Bowery Ballroom.

New York garage rock is on its way back in: after the 70’s (The Velvet Underground, New York Dolls) and the early-00’s (The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), here’s to hoping we get a third wave.

Coco O. – Soldier

We discovered Coco O's solo material back in 2019 amidst a low in our social health and now that I think about it, her tracks made me feel much, much better. Indeed, you will have heard of Coco O. before. She’s one half of Quadron, a danish duo that released a few albums and rose to fame by appearing on the Great Gatsby movie Original Soundtrack.
