Dark Light

Out today (Friday 8th 2019) via Parisian tastemaker label Kitsuné Musique Quelu’s “Carré” which stands for “square” in French or more accurately defined here by the Urban Dictionary term “Buff” below…

Buff: When someone is looking fine you say they are buff (London ting) “Manz was buff”.

J’ai un physique de déménageur
Mais j’ai peur comme un bébé-nageur

The debut track by promising French rapper Quelu defines the modus operandi of this particular Kitsuné Parisien compilation that aims to shed light on rising talent from within the French capital, discovering exciting new talent in their fifth installment of the now famous compilation. The lad describes his sound and how he projects himself as being an urban crooner, tears salesman, charm-singer and a wine-drinker. Or in other words as a Frenchman in the most pristine form you can get. The description holds true when you hear the lyrics of the track “Carré”, a caricature depicting a bodybuilder giving all he has for his muscles but doesn’t work out enough on his serenading skills:

Viens un peu plus dans mes bras
J’te protégerais, tu verras

I dug the simple approach yet organically lush production on offer here as well as the driving force of the lullaby-esque melody ringing throughout the track. Rounding off a very interesting debut for Quelu that will no doubt remind you of some of the French rappers already at work including Damso or Lomepal, with some hints of Myth Syzer and Ichon thrown in for good measure. Pre-order the “Kitsuné Parisien” compilation today after the jump and follow Quelu on his socials with all the relevant links provided further down:
