Black Country, New Road is a British post-rock band formed in 2018 with members Isaac Wood (guitar, vocals), Luke Mark (guitar), Lewis Evans (saxophone), Georgia Ellery (violin), May Kershaw (keyboard), Tyler Hyde (bass) and Charlie Wayne (drums). Each of them adding a “je-ne-sais-quoi” element to the band that is multiplied when they play together. Something that just clicks when they start jamming.
“We wanted it to sound exactly how we love to sound live.”Says Lewis Evans, the saxophonist.
Their band name — Black Country, New Road — was taken from a Wikipedia name generator and most of their imagery online is directly taken from stock pictures (think Unsplash, Artist.io, etc…) and all the modern stock footage you could think of down to the Album cover itself. It’s quite a weird sight and obviously doesn’t even take away from the music itself for once. It most likely accentuates that sense of urgency.
Listen to “Track X” by Black Country, New Road:
Today, they are back with force and full-frontal with a daring collection of tracks in their debut album titled “For The First Time” conceived between their debut and as recently as the Pandemic was unleashed upon Europe and recorded with Andy Savours (from the band My Bloody Valentine). The six tracks of the album do a pretty stunning job at hastily capturing the instant in which they were found with all the energy of a brand new band on the London scene. Black Country, New Road, was getting ready to tour and the anticipation boiling at a rapid pace before being shot in the foot by the Coronavirus outbreak.
“This is basically representative of our first 18 months.”Says lead vocalist and guitar Isaac Wood of the album “For the First Time”.
Having been in and around the scene for a few years now as part of different bands namely Nervous Conditions, Good With Parents, and Jockstrap. As well as opening for bands like Fat White Family, black midi and Squid whom they consider peers, contemporaries and a major sonic influence in the flavor they bring to the live set.
